New Forum

Posted by Grabeorama on 27 Feb 2010

I am am proud to announce the project I have been working on behind the scenes for a while now. Thanks to [url=http://www.phpbb.com]PHPBB[/url], a free open source bulletin board/forum, I have been able to add a forum for the site. The main difference between this forum and the old one is it's location. The old Invision forum, which is [b]not[/b] open source was located on their servers. The new PHPBB forum is located on grabeorama.com.

Also with this open source forum, I can edit each page as I wish. I can now make the website communicate with the forum, which was previously impossible.
I found it really annoying that people needed two accounts for the site, one for grabeorama.com and one for the forum. Now you only need [b]one[/b] account to be able to post on both the forum and the site.

The forum is still under construction, i.e. it only has two forums, but I plan on making it roughly as large and diverse as the last.

The only down-side to the new login system is that current members will have to re-register. Just click the [url=/forum/ucp.php?mode=register]register[/url] button at the top right of the screen and enter your old details.

Also with the new system, now that I can sync data between forum and site, I will try and make a handy stats page for each user showing their recent forum posts and blog comments, along with their reviews (which I will hopefully be adding soon too).

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by the re-register process, but at the end of the day it should hopefully be a one-time change. I hope you like the changes, please post any feedback/suggestions here.

Cheers

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Posted by on 19 Feb 2010

Today I managed to find myself enough money to get my hands on the new COD game "Modern Warfare 2". I haven't played the first one, or any other Call Of Duty game, so I was a total COD noob before today. Unless you don't have ears, you'll have heard all the hype about Infinity Ward's newest release.

Modern Warfare 2, as most of you probably know has a very controversial level in which you actually have the option to skip, in-case it might offend you! The level puts you in the shoes of an under-cover agent helping a group of terrorists wipe an airport clean of civilians. The second I started playing this level, I could see why it was such a controversial level. Innocent civilians run frantically from all sides to avoid the onslaught of bullets from the cool mafia-like gang.

So far the game looks really good and gameplay is really smooth. I played online for about 15 minutes...and got absolutely PWNED!

BBCode Added

Posted by on 17 Feb 2010

I have added some basic BB code to the blog which means I can use coding and quoting blocks:

[code]This would be a code block.[/code]

[quote=Grabeorama]This would be a quote block.[/quote]

[url=http://www.grabeorama.com]This[/url] would be a link to Grabeorama.com

This text should be [b]bold[/b], and this text should be [i]italic[/i].

I am just testing these to see if they work, if they do I will be adding it to blog/review comments, and should hopefully be adding smileys too :)

RSS Feed

Posted by on 14 Feb 2010

I have finally got around to adding the RSS feed for the blog. You can now subscribe to get the latest entries as they happen. If you need help using the feed, please use the contact page and I will try to help.

I will be adding the reviews into the feed, but should I include it into this feed, or let it have it's own?
Please let me know what you think.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game

Posted by on 11 Feb 2010

The latest game I bought for PS3 is James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. After seeing the film 4 times, I just had to buy the game! Unfortunately it's not half as good as the film, and really didn't live up to my, let's be fair, huge expectations.

First off, the game is a prequel to the movie, which really annoyed me, seeing as none of the characters are the same. I was waiting for Jake or Neytiri to make an appearance, but sadly neither showed up.
Secondly, the story not only is very badly told, but seems to have no point. I don't want to wreck the story for you, but it seemed to me as though the tasks the player was set were almost just to fill gaps in the story.

When playing the game you can choose whether to be a signals specialist for the RDA (the humans) or you can betray your race and become a Na'Vi (the native race of Pandora). In the film Jake betrays his race after learning the ways of the Na'Vi and falls in love with the planet and Neytiri, but in the game the player betrays his entire race on a few words from Dr.Harper, a scientist whom you've only spoken to once before.

For me, the story just wasn't convincing and barely related to the film at all. There's hardly anyone online for multiplayer, and the ending never really made any sense.
It's a pity really as the film was brilliant and had many fans, but the game just didn't make that standard.
