The Hand Of Frog

Posted by on 29 Nov 2009

About two weeks ago the Republic of Ireland played France in the World Cup 2010 qualifier play-offs. France were favorites to win the match after winning the first leg 1-0 with an away goal at hand.

The match took place on the 18th of November in Paris. The Irish team dominated both possession and chances in the first half and scored a deserved goal to level the teams on an aggregate score of 1-1, with both teams scoring an away goal, the scales started to tip in Ireland's favor. Chances were missed by Ireland's Robbie Keane and Liam Lawrence and Ireland should have two or three up by the end of the game, but failing to convert their chances the game remained deadlocked until the 90th minute. Extra time pursued with the french team finally starting to look more positive when late in the first half of extra time they scored on very controversial terms.

The ball was played over the top of the Irish defence and was handled by Thierry Henry twice as he controlled the ball with his hand before delivering the ball across to William Gallas to head home from about half a yard. Both the lines man and the referee missed the handball which from the picture and video playback is blatantly obvious.

The goal put Franc through to the World Cup group stages in South Africa and have sent Ireland packing after a heroic performance. The goal has also sparked worldwide controversy about how FIFA should implement video reffing into football so incidents like these would be prevented. Thierry Henry has also received death threats and has thought about retiring from international football because of the reaction from football fans around the world.

I think the whole thing has gone way to far. Thierry Henry is not actually at fault. When replayed in slow motion you can clearly see he controlled the ball twice with his hand, but when viewed in real time, it looks like a reflex and any other player in his situation would have probably done the same. The blame should be aimed more at the referee and lines man who both completely missed the foul and allowed the goal to stand! But instead pages have been created on Facebook and Bebo calling Thierry Henry a cheat and a disgrace to football. Even if he had admitted that he hand balled it to the referee during the game, he would have hushed the Irish and honest football fans, but then he would have the Frecnh fans to answer to, and I think we all know the result would have been pretty much the same...but in French!

Now that the website is pretty much finished, I just wanted to know what you, the general public thought of it. The "updates" section on the home page was an addition inspired by the popular social networking site Twitter. So you can now read the updates in a "tweet" like format!
There is also a "Reviews" section on the homepage that shows the most recent 5 reviews (unfortunately there are only two now >_<) in a picture like way, just under the most recent blog entry section.
As requested you can now leave comments on the reviews and blog entries, and you can also submit or request a review.

Still to come is a contact form, where you can leave a suggestion, error report or feedback, but for now just post them here ^_^

Scented Toilet Paper

Posted by on 20 Nov 2009

One thing I find incredibly stupid in today's world is scented toilet paper! Have you ever seen something stranger than a woman in a supermarket smelling different brands of toilet paper? You'd think that women was off her head, who in their right mind smells toilet paper before using it!? Are they making sure it's not second hand!?

"Ooh that smells gorgeous" *SWIPE* "Euch not anymore!" - What did you expect!? That it would remain smelling of raspberries and vanilla after you took a dump on it!? Sheesh!

Friday The 13th

Posted by on 13 Nov 2009

Today, as you probably realized was Friday the 13th, a day where normal every day people go out of their way to avoid "bad luck". To be honest I think its the stupidest superstition ever invented, along with fortune telling, horoscopes and religion...but their for another day!
People are so afraid of Friday the 13th, that they actually had to go and invent a disease for it, called "paraskevidekatriaphobia" which basically means "Friday", "13" and "fear" in english. Pretty original. According to a Norse Myth, if you seat 13 people at a table, the result will be the death of one of the diners! Have you ever heard a news headline that read something like "13th member of social gathering suddenly dies as buttocks hit chair"? Why do people think that on a particular day of the year, bad things will happen to them. Let's take my day as an example.

My day started like any other, but I had to wake up 15 minutes earlier...so far not great. I then had breakfast (only 4 at the table so I couldn't test the myth), nothing bad happened there. I then left for school, forgetting my P.E gear for sports...which consequently ended in a note home to my parents and a certain detention if it happens again...the day had started getting worse.
At break I went down to the shops with my friends, but forgot the lunch I had made at home in the school, and so was left with no money or food while watching my friends gorge off chocolate doughnuts and apple pastries. On the way back from the shops, I stepped in dog sh*t and had to put up with the smell for the 15 minute walk back to the school...Followed by three more classes of my friends asking me "Do you smell that?", so with a quick sniff of the air, I'd ask them if theyd stepped in dog sh*t and watch them foolishly check their shoes! I finally came home and watched tv for the rest of the day with no bad luck what so ever.

So was this day extraordinarily unlucky for me? Not really! Besides the do sh*t most of those things happen to me on a regular basis, so unless Friday the 13th means you're gonna step in sh*t, then just watch where you put your feet and you'll be fine! Just make sure you keep an eye on the road too, that's how people get killed!

Recently a study was done, they (They being who ever did the study, as I have no idea!) compares the death rates on roads between normal days and Friday 13th. The results showed that LESS people die on this day, as more people are concious that bad things will happen to them, and so they take more care and drive slower!

Conclusion? Friday 13th doesn't give people bad luck or good luck, it just makes superstitious people something to moan about to get attention! Because they have nothing better to do in their lives than to assume bad things will happen to them about twice a year!

Just out of curiosity, has anything bad happened to you today, or any other Friday 13th that normally woudln't happen to you?

X - Factor

Posted by on 11 Nov 2009

'X Factor' the worlds most popular musical talent show has turned into one of the most controversial tv shows in a long time. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it, as last week over 15 million people tuned in for the live show and results.
If you've never heard of it, you should be smacked across the face, unless you do not speak english or own your own television set. The show is in its elimination stages and nearing the final. Only a few singers remain, and the final group, "John and Edward" more commonly known as JEdward have made their way into the headlines every single week of the show.

They are the youngest duo remaining in the show and clearly the most controversial. They put on a good show, but sing they sing like a cat being pulled through a ditch by the tail. According to Simon Cowell, the main judge the show is about finding someone who can sing and make it in todays charts. John and Edward would be almost bearable on tv, but on radio, they wouldn't have a hope.
Every week, the two acts with the least amount of votes get put into a sing-off type tie breaker, where the judges then pick the better of the two to save. JEdward have never been in the bottom two, so the judges have never gotten the chance to eliminate them...until last Sunday. Last Sunday JEdward were at long last in the bottom two, and we all thought finally these buggers'll finally hit the road. The vote from the judges were split 2-1 for Jedward to leave and it came down to Simon Cowell, who finally had the chance to put the twins out after complaining about how they were still in the show for weeks. Unfortunately Simon left it down to the audience to decide their fate after voting for them to make it a 2-2 tie. The audience picked JEdward of course!
There are rumors spreading like wildfire across the web accusing Simon of voting for them to keep the controversy in the show to attract more viewers. This has also led to people creating pages on facebook and myspace to tell everyone to vote for them to win to teach Simon a lesson and make him stuck with signing the twins for a record deal, which they clearly wont make much money from! A recent poll on Yahoo showed that over 80% of people have lost all belief in the show since Sunday and many of these people will be boycotting the show this Saturday. It should be interesting to see how many viewers the show attracts now after Simons controversial decision !
